About the Role
We are looking for a manager to lead a multidisciplinary research and development team. The role combines model development and technological management of researchers and developers (DS & DE), leading advanced data research, building software architecture, and hybrid management across an on-premise (Clalit) environment and a cloud environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a diverse technology team: leading a team of approximately 5 people, including data scientists specializing in image processing, a data scientist specializing in NLP/LLM, and data engineers responsible for developing supporting applications (React/Python) and DevOps.
- Research and algorithmic leadership: managing and hands-on developing deep learning models on multidimensional data, and advancing applied research.
- Infrastructure and software engineering: managing and advancing development environments and containers (Docker/OpenShift), and working with the organization's infrastructure.
- Cross-organizational work: navigating technological complexities within a large healthcare organization and building working interfaces with its various units.
Requirements
- Experience as a Data Scientist: at least 5 years of hands-on experience, including proven experience in deep-learning-based image processing.
- Management experience: at least 2 years managing a small team (2–6 people), including professional and personal responsibility for R&D staff.
- Technical proficiency: advanced Python skills and deep learning environments, along with classical knowledge of model development and statistical analysis.
- Infrastructure and software engineering: background in software engineering (Git, code review, structured development processes). Practical knowledge of Linux, Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and working with GPUs.
Nice-to-Have
- Medical imaging: hands-on experience with medical images (DICOM, segmentation, detection and 3D volumes).
- Academic research: experience conducting research and writing or publishing papers in leading journals or conferences.
- NLP and LLMs: experience extracting information from unstructured clinical text (including Hebrew), prompting, fine-tuning, RAG and running models in a closed environment.
- Clinical data: familiarity with the medical data landscape: PACS, EHR, coding systems (ICD/SNOMED) and standards (FHIR, OMOP).
- Cloud and web: experience with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP) and migrating research workloads from on-premise to the cloud. Familiarity with React or web development, enough to guide the data engineers on the team.
Personal Skills
- Leading with humility: managing a team of experts.
- Flexibility in thinking and management: able to work in two modes, diving deep into the technical details on one hand, and communicating at eye level with clinicians and management on the other.
- Initiative and independence: able to drive processes and push projects forward under environmental constraints, continuously looking for ways to improve and advance without being told what to do.
- Order and ownership: a systematic approach, with responsibility for documentation and for code and data quality.
